  • The ThermalWave® II Vortec and HP with Non-Interference, Non-contact Engines

The difference between Interference or contact engines and non-interference, non-contact engines  lies in the proximity between the valves and the pistons. On an interference or contact engine, if the timing belt slips even one notch, the piston can crash into an open valve causing serious engine damage by bending valves and breaking pistons. Non-interference or non-contact engines will not self destruct, rather they will freewheel to a stop should the timing belt ever be compromised. With the interference or contact engines, manufacturers are recommending changing the timing belt every 2,000 hours. This entails disassembly of the truckmount, accessing the timing belt cover, removing the cover and changing the belt. It is cumbersome and expensive. The ThermalWave II Vortec and HP have non-interference engines. We recommend the timing belt be changed every 12,000 hours. We are hearing that many end-users are uneasy about purchasing a unit with a contact engine, so this is the ideal opportunity to sell them on the ThermalWave II Vortec, since this is not an issue. Not to mention the many other benefits of our products including our patented Minimal Back Pressure (MBP) heat exchange technologies.
